Leesa’s Life

One week of track practice done and things are looking pretty good. Matt has been pretty sore and tired, but he is really enjoying it. No idea what events he’ll be doing yet, but whatever they are I think he’ll do fine.

Had our payroll audit today (work comp) and boy, do I hate those. It doesn’t take long to do. The insurance guy comes out, looks over my payroll records, writes down a few numbers, smiles and leaves, but it’s an intrusion on my day and that frustrates me. Especially when the guy says he’ll be here at “some point in the morning”. yeah, it was like sitting here, waiting on a repairman to arrive. I felt like I couldn’t do anything because I didn’t know exactly when he was going to get here and I didn’t want to be in the middle of something when he did show up. Needless to say, my morning wasn’t very productive at all.

I’ve also been fighting a slight stomach bug. Haven’t felt the best since last weekend, but not so sick that I can warrant staying in bed with the covers pulled over my head although that does sound heavenly. I don’t know what is wrong, but I feel off. Stomach hurts, muscles are sore, but no fever or headache, no vomiting or diarrhea, just feel like crud.

I’ve also had birthdays galore these past couple of weeks. My son’s bday was Feb. 23rd then my mom’s was March 1, my niece’s was today, my nephew’s is Tuesday, my dad’s is the 15th, a friend’s is the 18th, and my cousin’s is the 23rd. And every single one of them has had or will have a party or a get together that I am pretty much obligated to go to.

And that’s my week. I know I’ve not been the best at updating this blog lately and I’m sorry that when I do, it isn’t the most interesting to read. Maybe one of these days I’ll have more interesting things to write about. Later!

It’s that time of year again….track season. Numb Butt season as I so lovingly call it. Sitting on hard bleachers, cheering on my lovely child, I’m so not ready for that this year. It’s time though. I took Matt yesterday for his sports physical and track practice starts next week. Practice is every day after school until 5pm then his first meet is on March 31st. So, I guess I’ll be digging out my bleacher chair soon and preparing myself for another case of NB for a few months. I keep telling myself that at least I get to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, but so far that isn’t helping much.

Ever have one of those days when no matter how much you eat, you just can’t seem to get full? Well, the past couple of days have been like that for me. No matter how big of a meal I eat, no matter how many between meal snacks I have, I just can’t seem to get rid of that hollow feeling in my gut. I have tried everything that I can think of from filling up on fiber-rich veggies to drinking gallons of water (maybe I’m thirsty?), but no luck. I eat and half an hour later my stomach is growling. Yes, actually growling. No it’s not “that time of the month” and no I am NOT pregnant so what else could it be? Other then being possessed by Eric Cartman (my favorite South Park character), I don’t know what else to think.

I haven’t been able to think of much to write since the beginning of the year so here is another meme, stolen from Crazy Lady. Hope you enjoy it.

1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought? What is that spot above my eyebrow? How long has it been there? Man, I’m getting old. Oh wait, that was more then the first thought.

 2. How much cash do you have on you? None, although I had $10 before daughter took it for lunch money.

 3. What’s a word that rhymes with DOOR? Poor, which is what I am now that daughter took all my moolah.

 4. Favorite planet? Pluto even though it technically isn’t a planet anymore 😦

5. Who is the 4th person on your missed call list on your cell phone? Hubby

 6. What is your favorite ring tone on your phone? Second Chance by Shinedown Read the rest of this entry »

Smooth Away So, I’m always on the lookout on ways to get rid of facial hair. Why? Because I’m one of those unfortunate women who have dark hair on their head and therefore have dark hair on their face. I’ve tried a lot of products to get rid of it. I’ve bleached, I’ve plucked, I’ve waxed. While all of those methods work, none of them were very pleasant to endure.

I think I’ve actually found something though that I can deal with. It’s called Smooth Away. I tried it a couple of days ago and it wasn’t bad. It’s really easy to use and practically painless. You actually buff away the unwanted hair with these pads that have superfine crystals on them. And a bonus is that you exfoliate your skin at the same time.

The system that I got came with a large and small Smooth Away pad and four large and small replacement pads. I also received a bottle of moisturizer that helps keep the hair from growing back as quickly.

When I tried the system, I was a little apprehensive at first. I mean, it’s basically sandpaper and to me that didn’t seem like it would be painless. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was! It did take awhile to buff off the hair, but once i was finished I was very happy with the results. The only problem I had was when I went to put the moisturizer on. I guess my skin was a little irritated from the buffing because it stung a bit. I was worried that I might be allergic to it so didn’t put on a lot to begin with. The next day, when I saw that I didn’t have any redness, I used a bit more and it didn’t sting at all so I’m really thinking it was just from the minor irritation earlier. I’m excited that I found this product. I will definitely be using it again and again.

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a bit. My last post shared with you that I’d done some rotator cuff damage to myself. Thankfully, that is all healed. I can lift my arm without pain now and am pretty well back to normal in that area. My back is still bugging me off and on, but I think that is just something I’m going to have to live with for awhile. At least it is better then it was last summer. I’m trying not to complain too much since I know it could be much worse.
Things have been going really well with the business. We actually sold part of it, which is helping out a ton on the stress levels around here. It was a mutual decision between me and the hubs. I think if we hadn’t sold part of the business that we’d have both slowly gone insane. Ok, maybe not so slowly 🙂
Let’s see, what else has been going on? OH, hubby celebrated his 40th birthday last Monday. He was not thrilled about turning the big 4-0, but not much he could do about it. Plus, he’s teased me about being over the proverbial hill since I hit the big 40 last year (yes, I’m older then him 😉 ) so it was only fair that it finally be his turn. We had a nice birthday dinner for him the Sunday before and celebrated quietly with family. He didn’t want a big to do although I think he’d have had a lot of fun if we had. Maybe next year.
I’m sure there are other things that I should update you on, but for the life of me I can’t think of them at the moment. I guess if I do then that will just be ideas for more posts.

Yet another injury to report on the old Leesa chassis. I have a torn ligament in my rotator cuff. I am so frustrated. My back starts feeling better and I hurt myself somewhere else. It’s like my body is a pain junkie and just can’t get enough of it. Well, I’m tired of it and need an intervention…quick!

Anywho, I don’t know exactly how I hurt my shoulder. I just remember Thursday night going to bed with a bit of an ache in my collar bone and waking up Friday morning unable to life my arm over shoulder height.

I figured it would go away so I took some ibuprofen, got out the ice pack and relaxed the majority of the day. I enjoyed that part a lot 🙂

Saturday morning, I’m still hurting so more ibuprofen and ice. Sunday, I’m feeling a little bit better. Enough so to go see Gran Torino…OMG! What a good movie. I strongly encourage you to go see it. The entire movie my shoulder didn’t twinge, didn’t throb, didn’t hurt at all so I’m thinking that it’s got to be healing. Wrong! We ate at Applebee’s afterwards and it was all I could do to raise my fork to my mouth.

Yesterday, I’d had enough. I called my doctor and begged her to help me. I went in, she took xrays, did tests, and then looked at me with sadness in her eyes and told me that I’m getting old! Did I tell you that she thinks she’s a comic? No? Well, I didn’t think it was funny either, but it was better then her telling me that I’d torn a stupid ligament. The only thing I can think of doing differently was opening the stupid overhead door on the barn. I must have lifted, twisted, pushed, whatever, too darn hard and damaged it then.

So, I’m now doing physical therapy (thankfully, here at home. She gave me exercises), taking enough ibuprofen to kill a horse and trying to type one handed while my left arm is in a sling for three days (to take pressure off the rotator cuff). Dr. says I should be better in a week or so, but if not then I might need surgery. Please let me heal before that option gets here.
