November 30, 2008….our first measurable snow. What is that old wive’s tale about the date you get the first big snow? Something about that is how many more measurable snows you’ll get throughout that winter. Yeah, November 30…THIRTY…I don’t think I’m going to like this winter if we get that much snow.
Thankfully, the snow we received on Sunday was pretty much melted that afternoon. But, lucky us we got more overnight and most of the day Monday. It was a very dry snow though and it didn’t accumulate more then an inch, which was good. It blew around, however, and that made for some pretty slick roads this morning. There were several areas where the snow had blown over the road and made it a sheet of ice. What fun to drive in….NOT!
At least it didn’t snow today and the sun was out and shining so it again melted the majority of it away. I guess if we get 30 snows like that then I might be able to handle it. Here one second, gone the next. Yeah, that I think I can do.
It does make it seem more like the holiday season though with a dusting of snow on the ground and it has actually put me more into the holiday spirit. I’ve even gotten a lot of my shopping done over the past few days. I didn’t venture out to any stores on Black Friday, but I did my fair share of online shopping. I found some good deals too, if I do say so. I also got several good deals online yesterday for Black Online Monday. Many sales and discounts were to be found and believe me, I took advantage of them. The way gas prices hit our wallets this past year, I’m trying to save as much as I possibly can on Christmas gifts.
I’m hoping to have all of my shopping done by next weekend. I used to be one of those people who you’d see out on Christmas Eve, hunting for that last minute gift, but not anymore. Nowadays I’d much rather finish early (although I’m still not as early as my mom, who finished her shopping before Halloween!) then drag it out until the last minute.
